In 16th-century Sri Lanka, a fractured land is caught between the ambitions of the Portuguese Empire, the waning Kotte Kingdom, and the rising power of Sitawaka. Amidst the chaos, Konnapu Bandara, a former ally of the Portuguese turned rebel warrior, renounces Christianity and vows to reclaim his heritage and restore Sinhala sovereignty. His path to power is brutal and brilliant – defeating enemies, capturing Senkadagala, and declaring himself king under the name Wimaladharmasuriya. At the same time, Kusumasana Devi, the orphaned daughter of King Karaliyadde Bandara, is taken to Mannar and baptized by the Portuguese as Dona Catharina, intended to be a puppet queen under colonial rule. Raised in a foreign faith, isolated from her culture, and used as a political pawn, she becomes the symbol of Portugal’s ambition to Christianize and rule the island. But destiny has other plans. As Konnapu Bandara rises in power, he finds himself drawn not only to the throne but to Dona Catharina, the last blood heir of the Kandyan royal line. What begins as a political encounter evolves into a bond forged by shared heritage and destiny. Their marriage, rooted in mutual respect and growing affection, becomes more than a union of power – it becomes a love story that marks a pivotal turning point in Sri Lankan history.
